Music Rooms

MacKillop College boasts two fully equipped Music classrooms to cater for students studying Music in Year 7 through to 12. The rooms are some of the most spacious in our College allowing ample space for ensemble rehearsals and small group work. A useful design feature is the operable wall that can be opened to effectively double the size of the music area. This aspect is perfect for small performances or running a combined music class.

Music students are encouraged to develop their practical skills with the junior classroom comprising a class set of nylon string guitars. Other instruments available in class include: Ukuleles, Djembes and a variety of percussion instruments. Additionally there is a drum kit in each room and a variety of keyboards and digital pianos.

Each room has a PA system to allow for the provision of crystal-clear audio. Music 2, the senior classroom, is fitted with a high quality QSC PA, including subwoofers. This resource is a high-end amplification system that is operated by a Mackie digital mixer (iPad operated) for remote mixing. There are also a variety of Fender and Epiphone (Gibson) electric guitars for guitarists and bass players to make use of.

Three smaller practice rooms complete the music area. Two containing high quality Kawai and Yamaha pianos. These rooms are frequently in use for small groups and solo rehearsals as well as the facilitation of private music lessons with staff from the Mitchell Conservatorium of Music and the Bathurst Academy of Music. One of these rooms is adjacent to Music 2 and in time will provide recording and ICT facilities for students interested in pursuing this element of music production.

MacKillop College has a small number of wind and string instruments available for hire. Most students possess their own instruments, but the College is happy to look into the provision of instruments for those students who would enjoy the opportunity to play a band instrument.

In 2020 the Sisters of Mercy donated a baby grand piano to the College. This instrument is a lovely piano to play and will be used for College assemblies, performances and liturgies. Students are also able to use this piano for their own rehearsal and piano practice.
